Household waste collection

Household waste refers to the waste created in the home when cooking, playing, cleaning and so on. Not all of this waste is to be put in the waste bag. Glass, metal, papers and electrical waste must be separated. In addition, the waste bag must not weigh more than 15 kilograms.

If you live in a house, there are a number of options available. You can choose containers in various sizes for compost, garden waste and regular household waste. You also pick how often the rubbish is to be collected (every week or every second week). Household waste is collected from all houses, but if you will not be staying in your house for at least four months, you may apply to the Environment and Urban Planning Department for exemption from waste collection. Their office also handles applications for composting your food waste.

If you live in a flat, the property owner decides how often the household waste is collected.
